Book Barn — Saturdays, 10–2

The Book BarnFriends of the Rappahannock County Library

The Book Barn, a red barn with BOOK BARN painted across the gable, beside a flowering crape myrtle.

The Book Barn sits next door to the Rappahannock County Library, on Rt 211 just outside Little Washington. Everything on these shelves was donated. Everything it earns goes straight back into the library. In between, a handful of volunteers sort, price, and shelve it.

We close for major holidays. If it is a holiday weekend, check our Facebook page first.

What's on the shelves

Shelves of secondhand books inside the Book Barn, with a framed painting of a bald eagle and a framed historic county map standing on top.

Fiction, history, travel, art, sports, classics, biography, gardening, cookery, and a well-used children's section. Audiobooks, music CDs, and DVDs. Jigsaw puzzles and classic collectibles, at very reasonable prices. And a rack of historic Rappahannock County maps.

Because the stock is whatever the county brings us, the Barn has a habit of turning up incredible finds like: A boxed Chronicles of Narnia from 1956. A 1952 edition of Boy Scout Games. A month-by-month nature guide printed in 1926. A boxed set of the Little House books from 1953.

The gravel drive and paved walk leading to the Book Barn's front door.

Sales

We run themed half-price sales through the year. Watch our Facebook page and this website, or just come in and ask.
